In 2010 LG introduced the world to their e-paper and this year, it has finally going into mass production. The LG’s Electronic Paper Display (EPD) is a 6-inch, 1024×768 pixels plastic screen that can bend 40 degrees. Although it won’t fold enough to fit in a back pocket, it brings us one step closer to that being a reality.
The EPD is thinner and lighter than its glass counterpart, i s 0.7mm thick and weighs less a half an ounce, and displaying durability for the demonstration, LG hit the Electronic Paper Display with a hammer and dropped it five feet without sustaining any damage.
Of the EDP, LG says: “As EPD gets thinner, lighter, and more durable with the introduction of plastic EPD, E-Books will be able to offer certain unique benefits compared to smart devices and tablets, including reduced eye fatigue and more efficient electricity consumption in addition to lower prices.”
No word on how pricing will compare to traditional glass substrate e-paper.
